There are many things to consider when purchasing a pair of boots but the primary thought should be what is this boot going to be used for. Function versus fashion.

A functional boot is something that you can ride in as well as work in. A smooth sole with a heel and a spurlick.

A more fashionable boot is typically going to be any style of boot you would not want to work in and usually have smooth leather soles. An example of this would an ostrich boot compared to a plain leather boot. The Ostrich boot is going to be more of a fashionable boot rather than the regular leather. Fashionable boots are also great for dancing.
